Hi folks,
In the next few weeks, I'll be launching a bare-bones beta-ish version of Aholics.com! I've been spending a lot of time on this, and it's still only maybe 1% of what I really want to accomplish with the site...but I hope to quickly iterate and re-launch with new features regularly.
What does this mean for JA? Not as much as you might think...but there will be some changes (I know how much y'all like change...  ):
- The biggest impact will be with regards to Categories and Forums. They will be reduced to a flat stream of posts and content with nice search capabilities. Considering the low level of traffic the forum is getting, I don't see this as a big concern. Once traffic levels increase, I'll be investigating ways of handling the flood of content you might not have an interest in. I already have some cool ideas around this in mind.
- Private forums will be archived (and removed from the system). There will no longer be private forums at all, at least for the time being. This is to improve the speed of the site.
- Moderators and Admins (except for me) will be removed until I build a better management system around this concept. I have some pretty awesome ideas on how to handle moderation in the future.
- The site URL will change from jeepaholics.com to jeep.aholics.com. Old URLs will still work fine (i.e. no links you have out there will break), you'll just be redirected to the jeep.aholics.com equivalent.
- Old JA static content (features, trip reports, tech, etc) will remain at jeepaholics.com until I have time to migrate them into the new site. I also have some ideas on this...again, in an attempt to decentralize content generation and distribute these abilities to the users (that's you guys!)
- TA and BA will be migrated after this is completed and running. Similar rules as above apply.
I'll update this post as I think of new things that might affect JA...but this should encompass most of it.
