PRP Suspension Seat Installation

36 Minutes to
Ultimate Comfort!

PRP (Premier Racing Products) is one of the off-road suspension seat companies out there that is lesser known by the Jeep community.  Their products are well made and less expensive than many of their competitors.  Each seat is made-to-order, and the company has hundreds of fabric options to choose from as well as made-to-order matching accessories.  My buddy Jim ordered himself a pair of PRP's Premier High Back seats for his YJ and asked me to give him a hand with the install.  It went more smoothly than we had imagined.  Below is a timeline of the installation, which took only 36 minutes!

6:42 p.m.- START!  We were replacing everything with PRP products so we trashed all the stock crap and started fresh.

6:45 p.m.- Passenger side seat removed.  The passenger side was a breeze...4 bolts and it was out.

6:48 p.m.- Drivers side seat removed.  The drivers’ side was easy too but we did have to lie on the floor to remove to nuts that weren’t attached to the tub.

6:53 p.m.- Note that the passenger side replacement seat mount comes with a tilt feature for back seat access.

When you buy seats and mounting brackets from PRP they include all the nuts and bolts you need to do your install, which is super cool!  No trip to the parts store to get bolts.  We attached the seat mounts to the bottom of the seats in just under 10 min.

7:04 p.m.- We have both seat mounts attached to the seats and the drivers side seat set in place in the jeep.  All the holes in the floor pan and the holes in the seat mount lined up perfectly on Jim’s rig like they are supposed too.  You may need to call your wife at this point.  An extra hand is needed to hold the rear, inside nut on the driver's side mount while you are under the rig.  Using the air ratchet with a deep 9/16 socket was the quickest.  She can go once this nut and bolt are tightened down.

7:09 p.m.- Drivers side seat installation is complete, and we start installation of passenger side.  With the passenger side, we used our air ratchet and short 9/16 socket this time as the tilt feature makes it a little tight.  The base of the mounting bracket allows for carpeting.  Jim’s rig has had the carpeting stripped out, so there was a visible gap between the floor pan and the mount itself.  However, this will go away when you tighten it up.  We also found it easiest to access the passenger side rear bolts by tilting the seat forward and using an end wrench.

7:18 p.m.- Installation of both new PRP seats and mounts complete!

The installation went smoothly, and only took us just over 30 minutes to complete.  The use of air tools made the process very easy.  We used a 9/16 deep socket, end wrench, and a 2” extension, jumbling this combination through the install of both seats.  We rate this install simple, as we only had to deal with 8 bolts holding the seats to the brackets and 8 bolts holding the brackets to the tub - take 'em out, put 'em back.  It’s as simple as that.

The Premier High Backs that Jim ordered and installed can be yours for $179 each and the replacement mounts are only $220 a set.  The mounts are compatible as stock mount replacements in CJ’s and YJ’s.  To view the complete line of seats and products offered by PRP Suspension Seats, visit them on the web at http://www.prpseats.com, or call (800) 317-6253 and ask for Aaron.
